The effects of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) administered through the injection into the lateral cerebral ventricle on the inhibitory effect of beta-endorphin on the cardiovascular system were observed in rabbits. It was found that beta-endorphin (10μg intracerebroventricularly) could suppress the cardiovascular functions showing remarkable decrease of MAP, LVSP, ±dp/dt(max), Vce 40, Vpm and Lo. The effects of beta-endorphin could-be abolished by adminitering 50 μg TRH intracerebroventricularly or opioid antagonist naloxone (50 μgintracerebroventricularly). It was believed that there was a close relationship between TRH on beta-endogenous opioidsystem and the reversible effects of TRH on beta-endorphin might be mediated through the opioid receptors. Whether TRH could directly act on the opioid receptors will be further investigated.
