摘要
各类公开的会议、展览、仪式、演出等活动经常需要有大字标语横幅彰显其名称或内容。这些横幅的英文翻译常成一道必备的工序。此类翻译要做得成功,绝非靠机械的文字对应,而必须根据具体情势进行必要的文字加工,特别要讲究英语表达形式的配置与词语的选用,并要尽量简约行事。对于一些技术性、专业性比较强的会展活动横幅,其名称的英文对应必须请教专家方可定;对于一些国际性会议或活动横幅的英文翻译则更应谨慎从事。
The English rendering of names of conferences, exhibitions, ceremonies and so on requires creative efforts, both linguistically and extra-linguistically. The translator has to be meticulous in the selection of words and structures before making his version pleasant to the native eye. Simplicity, political and technical correctness should be taken great care of throughout the process of such translation tasks.
