摘要
现代汉语中"妮"是一个常用词,它的出现和尼姑的"尼"关系密切,与佛教的传播发展密不可分。寺院经济中的奴婢制度使得"尼"和"婢"的关系十分密切,"尼"和"婢"可以互相转变身份,出现二者名异而实同的现象。"妮"当是在"尼"的身份一变而为"婢"时,为了指称这种有别于其它来源的奴婢时造出的新字。
＂Ni（妮）＂ is a commonly used character in modem Chinese, its emergence being closely related to ＂nun （ 尼 ）＂ and the spreading of Buddhism. The slave-and-maid system in the monastery economy made the relationship between nuns and slave girls very close; their identities were interchangeable, but actually they were the same in essence. When the identity of nuns was changed into ＂slave girls＂, ＂ni（妮）＂ emerged as a new character used to refer to this kind of＂slave girl＂ as differentiated from ＂slave girls＂ from other sources.
