摘要
爱米丽是19世纪末20世纪初美国南方没落种植因主的女儿——杰弗生小镇上存留的唯一的一位女贵族。她从小受来自家庭和社会的世俗等级观念及清教禁欲主义的双重毒害,性格严重扭曲,导致她在和自己的命运抗争的过程中,与北方包工头伯隆·荷马的爱情最终以悲剧告终。爱米丽的爱情悲剧不仅是她个人的,也是那个时代的悲剧。
Emily, the daughter of a southern plantation master at the end of 19^th century and the beginning of 20^th century, is the only noble remained in the small town. She suffers from family, society and social conventions, so her love with Homer turns out to be a tragedy. Eventually I come to the conclusion that Emily＇s tragic love is not of herself but of the whole society at that time.
