In recent years, journals of social sciences in China are experiencing labor pains. From top to bottom, people involved are all engaged in arguing for the changes, and they seemingly come to a consensus of opinion. A careful examination, however, may show the ambiguity of the "consensus", which indeed brings the journals into such dilemmas as being comprehensive or professional, expert-dependency or self-dependency, open to the market or restricted to small high circles, blind review or not and the like. Answers to these difficult problems seem to be ready, but practice proves no easy job. As a result, transformation comes to a crossroad. A wait-and-see strategy is simply normal. After all, changes are on their way.
