The origin and development of Blues witnessed the black experience in America. Classical Blues and successful singers have sublimated this art form into a way of life that can keep an optimistic spirit in time of difficulties and hardships. Ralph Allison not only locates a way of expression of life philosophy in Blues, but also comes to an awareness of literary potentiality in black music. He takes the lead to transform this potentiality into a literary act, and paves the way for the formation of a new modern literature to come out of the naturalist protest of Afro-American literature of the 20th century.
