Study on wavelength converter based on cross-gain modulation in semiconductor optical amplifiers in the counter propagating mode

摘要 全光波长转换器是密集波分复用系统中的关键光电子器件,也是混合WDM/OTDM光网络实用化的关键部分。从脉冲传输方程和载流子密度方程出发,详细分析了相向工作方式下交叉增益调制型波长转换器转换后光的消光比和啁啾特性。在分段动态模型中考虑了剩余端面反射和自发辐射噪声的影响,模拟结果为交叉增益调制型波长转换器的性能优化提供理论依据。 All-optical wavelength converters will become key components in dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems and be key building blocks for hybrid WDM/OTDM optical networks. According to pulse transmission equation and carrier density equation, performance of wavelength converters based on cross-gain modulation in semiconductor optical amplifiers in counter propagating mode were studied in terms of extinction ratio and chirp of the converted signal. The spontaneous emission and the residual facet reflectivity in the active region were considered in multi-section dynamic model. Numerical results provide the theoretical basis for performance optimization of wavelength converters based on XGM in SOAs.
