摘要
本文根据Coupland等学者的研究成果，着重分析闲谈的定义及其在日常会话和工作话语中的社会功能。分析结果表明闲谈研究是会话研究的重要方面，闲谈是人类交流的必不可少的组成部分，值得研究者关注。
This paper makes attempts to introduce Coupland et al＇s research results from three aspects： studies of the definitions of small talk, studies of small talk in mundane conversation, studies of small talk at work. From the analysis of the researches, it shows that research on small talk is an important part of conversation analysis and small talk is a necessary component of human communlcation, therefore it is worth conducting a research on it.
