《蝴蝶君》中主人公伽利玛受东方主义的浸染,表现出对东方文化刻板的幻想和偏见,尤其是对东方女子的偏执。西方文化对东方的思维定势使他成为牺牲品。黄哲伦通过伽利玛这一艺术形象,有力地颠覆了西方文化中长久积淀的东方主义。
The hero GalliMard in MButterfly ingrained by orientalism shows his fantasy and stereotyped view of the Easterners, especially his prejudice of the Eastern women. It is the stereotype of the East and the Easterners in Western culture that has him be a victim. David Hwang subverts Orientalist in the Western cultures through the artistic image of Gallimard.
