Technological capability and entrepreneurial performance: A strategic orientation perspective

摘要 技术创业型公司拥有雄厚的技术能力,然而这并不意味着这些公司也具备相当的竞争优势。技术能力转化为竞争优势的过程中是受到多方面因素影响的,其中一个重要的组织因素就是公司的战略模式定位。创新导向的战略可以为公司长期生存带来竞争优势,而市场导向的战略却是短期内组织生存的根本。因此技术创业型公司必须权衡公司的创新导向战略和市场导向战略。同时我们也认为,风险资本的介入也对这个转化过程具有重要影响。本文通过对三家典型技术创业型公司的案例研究来解释有关理论假设。 As we all know, technology-base entrepreneurial companies often have strong technological capabilities, but it doesn't mean they also have technological advantages. There are many factors that would affect the transformation from technological capabilities to technological advantages. Here we focus on one important factor-strategy orientation. In the long -run, innovation orientation would come with competitive advantages, but in the short term, market orientation is the root of ventures' survival. So the tradeoffs between innovation orientation and market orientation are very important. Meanwhile, external forces, such as venture capital companies would play an important role during the transformation process. On base of 3 technology-based entrepreneurial companies' case studies, the paper explained a theoretical mode and hypothesis.
