摘要
“用夏变夷”是儒家民族思想的重要组成部分,从孟子首次提出后,随着社会历史的变迁,其精神实质和具体内涵无论在理论上还是在实践中都发生了一些变化。大体说来,它经历了从孔子时的“夷而进于中国则中国之”到孟子时提出“用夏变夷”的思想;从先秦时的“外夷狄”、“正朔所不加”到汉唐时的“华夷一统”、“夷狄进至于爵”;从先秦汉唐时的“不予夷狄之主中国”到金元时的“能行中国之道则中国之主也”几个阶段。
“Assimilating barbarians with Chinese civilization”is an important component of Confucianists’national thought. After Mencius put forward it for the first time, with the changes of social history, some changes took place in theory and in practice in its spiritual essence and concrete connotations. In general, it went through from Confucius'“barbarians accepting Chinese civilization belonging to China”to the thought “Assimilating barbarians with Chinese civilization”proposed by Mencius, from the pre-Qin period’s “barbarians being foreigners”,to the Han and the Tang Dynasties'“united domain of the Chinese and the ethnic minorities in China”,“rank of nobility being awarded to barbarians”, from the pre-Qin,the Han and the Tang Dynasties’“barbarians being prohibited to rule China ”to “barbarians accepting Chinese civilization could be ruling class in China”during the Jin and the Yuan Dynasties.
