A methanotroph strain Methylomonas sp.S1 was isolated from Singapore soil. It was possessed of the general characteristics of methanotrophs. The isolate S1 utilized methane as carbon and energy source and its methane monooxygenase catalytically produced propylene oxide from propylene. The effect of culture conductions on growth and methane monooxygenase activity of S1 strain were discussed.
