摘要
奥尼尔通过扬克这一角色刻画了一个无所归附、希望幻灭并且被高度技术化的世界毁灭了的现代人的困境。在奥尼尔看来 ,孤独和绝望是现代人不可改变的宿命 ;现代人深刻的悲剧性在于 :他在思想或企盼 ,然而却找不到答案 。
ONeill, through Yank, depicts the plight of modern man who has become dislocated, disillusioned, and destroyed by the highly technological world. In him, the modern man is doomed to suffer loneliness and desperation; his tragedy results from the predicament in which he thinks and expects but fails to find the answer, for there exists no answer for him.
