摘要
隐喻能力、语言能力和交际能力是理论家从各自的理论立场出发提出的三个不同概念,但它们同时又相互联系、相互补充.外语教学既要剖析隐喻的美学价值,又要关注隐喻的教育价值,应鼓励学生使用隐喻性表达的冒险精神,而文化也不应被看作一种知识来传授,而应被当作一种认识世界的方式或手段来培养.
With a review of the metaphoric competence theory introduced by Gardner and Winner (1979), this paper redefines metaphorical competence, probes into the relationship that it holds to linguistic competence and communicative competence, and explores the practical theory that the theory has to foreign language teaching. It is pointed out that metaphorical competence, linguistic competence and communicative competence, though three distinct terms proposed by scholars from different theoretical perspectives, are closely related and mutually complementary. In the light of the above discussions, it is argued that (ⅰ) the aesthetic value and heuristic value of metaphor should both be emphasized in foreign language teaching, (ⅱ) students' employment of metaphorical expressions should be encouraged as a risk taking learning technique, and (ⅲ) culture should not be viewed as as a kind of knowledge to be taught but as a means of cognizance to be cultivated among the students.
