Less attention is paid to the study of Fitzgerald's Tender Is the Night in China, which is of few words and of misunderstanding. Through scrutiny and analysis of the text, it can be seen that Nicole, the patient and wife of Dick, a psychiatrist, and the society in which Dick lived, made him lose his ambition. He was physically and spiritually tired of life. When Nicole realized that she was independent of Dick and had found another lover, he seemed to have unloaded a heavy burden and became free. He chose to leave as expected.
