Columnar and dendritic crystallines would form during continuous casting process due to supercooling and constituent supercooing, and intercrystalline segregation would form between columnar and dendritic crystals. Taking some high-carbon steel as an example, effect of continuous casting billet organization on the final product was studied. The results show that intercrystalline segregation couldn’t be eliminated thoroughly by heating and hot rolling, remain in final product, and deteriorate the mechanical property of the final product. The intercrystalling segregation can be revealed clearly by picric acid etchant, and be used to analyze the origination of defects during hot rolling.
