1.General IntroductionDuring the past decade,10-plus colleges alld universities of science and engineering inChina have set up foreign languages departments for science and technology and foundedthe speciality of EST(English for Science and Technology).A growing number of peoplehave begun to show a keen interest in the articles and monographs that refer to EST.Itgoes without saying that EST,in China today,has been acclaimed as something new andimportant by the public.It is in the asccndant,and there seems no limit to its futuredevelopment.
