AbstractOn observing the modernization process in Black Africa during the 20th century, two cognitions can be reached. One is that Black Africa started its modernization process from an extremely underdeveloped and low historical base; Two is that important achievements have been made in the century, especially since 1960s, among which the most essential and significant being the gradual advance of both the centralization of political sovereignty of the new Black African countries and the increasing homogeneity of their national culture. These achievements are of historic significance and will have far reaching influences. Therefore, in a sense, the 20th century is a century in which Black Africa has developed its state politics and national culture with the gaining of freedom and liberation and the building of unified modern nation states as its contents at the core, while the 21st century will be a century of economic development for the continent with the elimination of poverty and the realization of abundance and prosperity as its key contents.
