Between the third and the sixth century, there appeared in China quite a lot of writings recording the history of Lingnan (south to the Nan Ling Mountain), but most of them sank into oblivion during the Tang and Song Dynasties. We only find some fragments in the quoted passages in some reference books such as Tai Ping Yu Lan, Shui Jing Zhu, Yi Wen Lei Ju, etc. The Qing Dynasty scholars had done a good job to compile and identify those lost works, but many issues are pending further discussion. This article makes a textual study concerning the authors and the titles of Shi Xing Ji, Jiao Zhou Jian, Jiao Zhou Ji , and Wu Shi Wai Guo Zhuan , hoping to contribute a bit to the academic research of these records.
