The merits of Disastrous Years, Dai Wangshu's last collection of poems, lie in its creation under the influence of surrealism. The paper discusses the background of the surrealistic influence and its specific impact upon his poetry, particularly that of Paul Eluard. The collection of poems has achieved great success for its magnificently surrealistic representation of national sufferings and individual pains. It has become a monumental work in the poetry history during the War of Resistance against Japan.
