In The Drummer of All the World, Margaret Laurence outlines the process of encountering, soaking, antagonizing, and rupturing of colonial culture and colonized culture. The analysis of each culture's varied psychological trends under varied circumstances reveals that the temporary co-existence of the cultures is due to the misreading between them, while the doomed failure in culture exchange results from the metropolitan main stream's desire to colonize and marginalize the minority culture, which inevitably brings about the latter's continual opposition to the former out of the desire to keep the intactness of itself. The seemingly weaker yet unyielding colonized culture thus succeeds in decentralizing the colonial culture and drives it away from its imaginary ideal 'homeland'. Then after the collision of the two cultures, the thought-provoking post-colonial culture is brought into existence.
