摘要
管理者个人的经历会影响公司财务报告决策。在军民融合的战略背景下,本文探讨高管从军经历与会计稳健性的关系。研究发现,有从军经历的高管所在公司的会计稳健性更低,并且经历过战争的高管和年少时参军的高管对公司会计稳健性的影响更为显著。进一步研究发现,高管从军经历对会计稳健性的影响主要存在于非国有企业中。本文的研究表明,有从军经历的高管更加偏好风险,决策更为激进,从而导致对会计信息的确认与计量更不具稳健性。本文的研究发现不仅有助于理解军队文化和价值观对微观企业的影响,也丰富了高管个人特质对公司财务报告决策影响的相关研究。
It is believed that management personal experiences affect the quality of financial reporting.The advent of civil-military integration policy provides an opportunity for us to explore the relationship between management military experience and accounting conservatism.Our results show that financial statements of the firm whose management has military experience exhibit less accounting conservatism.The effect is more pronounced when management experienced war in their military services or joined the army when they were juvenile.These results suggest that military experience increases management’s risk tolerance and thus leads to aggressive managerial financial reporting decisions,which contributes to less verifiability in accounting measurement and less conservatism in accounting information.Further investigation reveals that the adverse effect of managment military experience on accounting conservatism mainly exists in non-state-owned enterprises.Overall,the paper extends the literature on the impact of management personal characteristics on corporate financial reporting behavior to the case of management personal experiences that are imprinted by military culture and values.
