In the context of a shortage of social work professionals effectively supplied by educational institutions, the transition of practitioners from non-social work backgrounds to professional social workers holds significant importance for the development of the social work workforce. At present,“transitioned”social workers have objectively become the main force of social worker practitioners in our country. The article deeply analyzes the developmental process and characteristics of the professionalization of“transitioned”social workers, revealing three stages:the initial stage of professionalization characterized by“being oneself,”the mid-term stage of professionalization characterized by“self-sufficiency,”and the later stage of professionalization characterized by“self-awareness.”In this process, the government support serves as a guarantee for professionalization enhancement, institutional recognition drives professionalization directly, university educators act as promoters of professionalization, individual efforts of social workers form the foundation for professionalization, and improvements in service recipients’conditions guide the direction of professionalization enhancement.
