In this paper, a novel forecast model for shortterm prediction of wind speed and wind power is proposed, which is based on singular spectrum analysis(SSA) and locality-sensitive hashing(LSH). To deal with the impact of high volatility of the original time series, SSA is applied to decompose it into two components: the mean trend, which represents the mean tendency of the original time series, and the fluctuation component, which reveals the stochastic characteristics. Both components are reconstructed in a phase space to obtain mean trend segments and fluctuation component segments. After that, LSH is utilized to select similar segments of the mean trend segments, which are then employed in local forecasting, so that the accuracy and efficiency of prediction can be enhanced. Finally, support vector regression is adopted forprediction, where the training input is the synthesis of the similar mean trend segments and the corresponding fluctuation component segments. Simulation studies are conducted on wind speed and wind power time series from four databases, and the final results demonstrate that the proposed model is more accurate and stable in comparison with other models.展开更多

Wind speed is volatile in nature and therefore it is difficult to predict with a single model. In this study, three hybrid multi-step wind speed forecasting models are developed and compared — with each other and with earlier proposed wind speed forecasting models. The three models are based on wavelet decomposition(WD), the Cuckoo search(CS) optimization algorithm, and a wavelet neural network(WNN). They are referred to as CS-WD-ANN(artificial neural network), CS-WNN, and CS-WD-WNN, respectively. Wind speed data from two wind farms located in Shandong, eastern China, are used in this study. The simulation result indicates that CS-WD-WNN outperforms the other two models, with minimum statistical errors. Comparison with earlier models shows that CS-WD-WNN still performs best, with the smallest statistical errors. The employment of the CS optimization algorithm in the models shows improvement compared with the earlier models.展开更多

However, the current forecast methods are mostly based on traffic conditions to predict the speed, while ignoring the impact of the driver-vehicle-road system on the actual speed profile. In this paper, the correlation of velocity and its effect factors under various driving conditions were firstly analyzed based on driver-vehicle-road-traffic data records for a more accurate prediction model. With the modeling time and prediction time considered separately, the effectiveness and accuracy of several typical artificial-intelligence speed prediction algorithms were analyzed. The results show that the combination of niche immunegenetic algorithm-support vector machine(NIGA-SVM) prediction algorithm on the city roads with genetic algorithmsupport vector machine(GA-SVM) prediction algorithm on the suburb roads and on the freeway can sharply improve the accuracy and timeliness of vehicle speed forecasting. Afterwards, the optimized GA-SVM vehicle speed prediction model was established in accordance with the optimized GA-SVM prediction algorithm at different times. And the test results verified its validity and rationality of the prediction algorithm.展开更多

The DLP-WNN model obtains the daily forecast result byweighed summation of the daily output values of the two subnets. Subnet 1 reflects the overall trend of dailypassenger volumes in the recent period, and subnet 2 the daily fluctuation of the daily passenger volume toensure the accuracy of medium-term forecast.Findings – According to the example application, in which the DLP-WNN modelwas used for the medium-termforecast of the daily passenger volumes for 120 days for typical O-D pairs at 4 different distances, the averageabsolute percentage error is 7%-12%, obviously lower than the results measured by the Back Propagation (BP)neural network, the ELM (extreme learning machine), the ELMAN neural network, the GRNN (generalizedregression neural network) and the VMD-GA-BP. The DLP-WNN model was verified to be suitable for themedium-term forecast of the daily passenger volume of HSR.Originality/value – This study proposed a Double Layer Parallel structure forecast model for medium-termdaily passenger volume (about 120 days) of HSR systems by using the date and holiday labels and WaveletNeural Network. The predict results are important input data for supporting the line planning, scheduling andother decisions in operation and management in HSR systems.展开更多
