Caltrans use of scrap tires in asphalt rubber products:a comprehensive review 被引量:33

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has been using scrap tire rubber in asphalt pavements since the 1970s in chip seals and the 1980s in rubberized hot mix asphalt(RHMA). Both the wet (field bl... The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has been using scrap tire rubber in asphalt pavements since the 1970s in chip seals and the 1980s in rubberized hot mix asphalt(RHMA). Both the wet (field blend) and dry processes were used in early trials. Caltrans has also used rubber modified binders containing both crumb rubber modifier and polymer modifier that could be manufactured at a refinery facility, a terminal blend wet process. Since the beginning of this century, Caltrans increased the use of scrap tire rubber in paving projects and invested considerable resources in developing technically sound, cost effective, and environmentally friendly strategies for using scrap tire rubber in roadway applications. By the end of year 2010, approximately 31% of all hot mix asphalt (HMA) placed by Caltrans was rubberized HMA, roughly 1.2 million tons. Caltrans efforts in using asphalt rubber products were also demonstrated in its research and technology development. These included the construction of two full-scale field experiments, five warranty projects, and an accelerated pavement study using a heavy vehicle simulator. Additionally, terminal blend asphalt rubber and rubberized warm mix asphalts began to be experimented on trial basis. This paper provides a comprehensive review of Caltrans experience over four decades with asphalt rubber products. Current practices and future outlook are also discussed. 展开更多

The effect of niobium addition on the microstructure of cast AISI H13 hot work tool steel was evaluated by using EDX analyzer attached to the scanning electron microscope. The volume percent of eutectic area and eutectic cell size and also volume percent of different carbides of new steel, which is heat treated under different conditions, are also determined. The results show that the a niobium addition modifies the cast structure of Nb-alloyed hot work tool steel, and reduces the size and volume of eutectic cells, and increases the maximum hardness of the steel. 展开更多

The circulation, hygrothermal property and moisture transport character of typical hot and humid weather were analyzed in Beijing areas from July 30 to August 4, 2002. It was pointed out that, under the control of subtropical anticyclone which stretches to the west and north, downdraft suppresses the lifting of lower-troposphere moisture, which makes moisture keep in the lower troposphere. That is the direct reason causing hot and humid weather. Considering the non-uniformity saturated character in real atmosphere, generalized moist potential vorticity (GMPV) equation is derived by the introduction of generalized moist potential temperature concept. The analysis of GMPV shows that negative GMPV anomaly occurs in the lower troposphere. It has indicative sense to hot and humid weather. Thus, the GMPV anomaly can be utilized to identify this kind of weather and to make a short-term prediction. 展开更多

Thermal blanching is an essential operation for many fruits and vegetables processing.It not only contributes to the inactivation of polyphenol oxidase(PPO),peroxidase(POD),but also affects other quality attributes of products.Herein we review the current status of thermal blanching.Firstly,the purposes of blanching,which include inactivating enzymes,enhancing drying rate and product quality,removing pesticide residues and toxic constituents,expelling air in plant tissues,decreasing microbial load,are examined.Then,the reason to why indicators such as POD and PPO,ascorbic acid,color,and texture are frequently used to evaluate blanching process is summarized.After that,the principles,applications and limitations of current thermal blanching methods,which include conventional hot water blanching,steam blanching,microwave blanching,ohmic blanching,and infrared blanching are outlined.Finally,future trends are identified and discussed. 展开更多

Compared with H13 steel, the influences of different heat treatment process on the microstructure and properties of the new type of hot working die steel H13MOD were studied. The results show that the complete aus tenitizing temperature of H13MOD is around 1030 ℃ and the quenching hardness achieves the maximum value at this temperature. While for H13, the complete austenitizing temperature is above 1100 ℃ and the quenching hardness rise constantly with the quenching temperature increasing. In quenching process, the undissolved MC carbides can prevent the coarsening of grain in both steels. With the rise of quenching temperature, when MC carbides dissolve completely, the grain grows quickly. The hardness and strength of H13MOD at higher tempering temperature (above 570 ℃) are nearly the same as those of H13, but its toughness is higher than that of H13. Mo2C carbide is the main strengthening phase in H13MOD, which is attributed to the higher content of Mo. The quantity of VC eutectic car- bides is reduced because of lower content of V in H13MOD, which plays an important role in enhancing the impact toughness of H13MOD. Under a certain strength condition, H13MOD steel can be used in the environment that higher toughness is required and the service life of die casting mold can be improved. 展开更多

Hot-dip galvanized(HDG)steel sheets were treated for 30 s?24 h by the rare earth aqueous solution containing 20 g/L Ce(NO3)3·6H2O,and the growth behavior and corrosion resistance of the rare earth film were investigated by SEM,EDS,AES and NSS.The results reveal that the rare earth film becomes thick while the mass gain of the samples does not distinctly change due to the zinc dissolution with the increase of treatment time.The film grows up more quickly and is apt to cracking in the vicinity of zinc grain boundaries,and eventually the film partly warps and flakes off with increasing film thickness.The NSS results show that the corrosion resistance of the film is dominated by both the film thickness and the cracks.With increasing treatment time,the corrosion resistance of the film increases within 1 h due to the increased film thickness and decreases after 1 h because the cracking and flaking off gradually become dominant factor. 展开更多

The effects of temperature and pressure on density, microstructure and mechanical properties of powder compacts during hot isostatic pressing(HIPping) were investigated. Optimized HIPping parameters of temperature range from 900 to 940℃, pressure over 100 MPa and holding time of 3 h, were obtained. Tensile properties after different heat treatments show that both the geometry of samples and cooling rate have a significant influence on mechanical properties. Finite element method was used to predict the temperature field distribution during HIPped sample cooling, and the experimental results are in agreement with simulation prediction. The interaction of HIPping parameters was analyzed based on the response surface methodology(RSM) in this study. 展开更多

利用1961—2014年中国月降水和月气温观测资料,选择常用的标准化降水指数(SPI)及标准化温度指数(STI)识别复合高温干旱事件,通过计算其发生频率和空间发生面积,分析了近54 a中国及七个子区域夏季复合高温干旱事件的时空分布特征及变化... 利用1961—2014年中国月降水和月气温观测资料,选择常用的标准化降水指数(SPI)及标准化温度指数(STI)识别复合高温干旱事件,通过计算其发生频率和空间发生面积,分析了近54 a中国及七个子区域夏季复合高温干旱事件的时空分布特征及变化趋势。结果表明:除青藏高原及新疆部分地区以外的中国大部分区域为复合高温干旱事件的高发区。在趋势变化上,1988—2014年间中国大部分地区复合高温干旱事件的发生频率趋于增加(与1961—1987年相比),尤其是华北地区增幅较大(282.79%~682.48%);华中、华东以及西北部分地区趋于减少,其中华中地区减少相对明显。此外,1961—2014年全国复合高温干旱事件的空间面积显著增加,增长速率为(0.02~0.03)/10 a,且20世纪90年代以后增加趋势更为明显;区域上,华北、东北、华南、西南及西北等地区呈增加趋势,而华中和华东地区变化趋势不明显。 展开更多

Diffusion bonding between aluminum and copper was performed by vacuum hot pressing at temperatures between 623 and 923 K through two thermal processes: hot compression under the deformation rate of 0.2 mrrdmin for 10 rain at pre-set temperatures, and additional pressing at 0.2 mm/min for 20 rain during furnace cooling. After analyzing interface, the feasible diffusion bonding temperature was suggested as 823 K. The three major intermetallic layers generated during diffusion bonding process were identified as AIECu, AlCu+AlaCu4 and Al4Cu9. Furthermore, local hardness values ofAlECU, AlCu+AlaCu4 and Al4Cu9 layers average at (4.97±0.05), (6.33±0.00) and (6.06±0.18) GPa, respectively. 展开更多

Based on the daily maximum surface air temperature records from an updated homogenized temperature dataset for 549 Chinese stations during 1960-2008,we reveal that there is an abrupt increase in the number of days with high temperature extremes (HTEs,an HTE day is defined when the maximum temperature exceeds the 95th percentile of the daily maximum temperature distributions) across China in the mid-1990s.Before this regime shift,the average number of HTE days is about 2.9 d yr 1 during the period from the 1970s to the early 1990s,while it rocketed to about 7.2 d yr 1 after the mid-1990s.We show that the significant HTE day increase occurs uniformly across the whole of China after the regime shift.The observational evidence raises the possibility that this change in HTE days is associated with global-scale warming as well as circulation adjustment.Possible causes for the abrupt change in the HTE days are discussed,and the circulation adjustment is suggested to play a crucial role in the increase in HTE days in this region. 展开更多
