In general, the sliding zone soils are basically in unsaturated state due to rainfall infiltration and reservoir water level fluctuation. Meanwhile, a large number of examples show that the deformation processes of landslides always take a long period of time, indicating that landslides exhibit a time-dependent property. Therefore, the deforma- tion of unsaturated soils of landslide involves creep behaviors. In this paper, the Burgers creep model for unsaturated soils under triaxial stress state is considered based on the unsaturated soil mechanics. Then, by curve fitting using the least squares method, creep parameters in different matric suction states are obtained based on the creep test data of unsaturated soils in the sliding zones of Qianjiangping landslide. Results show that the predicted results are in good agreement with the experimental data, Finally, to fur- ther explore the creep characteristics of the unsaturated soils in sliding zones, the relationships between parameters of the model and matric suction are analyzed and a revised Burgers creep model is developed correspondingly. Simulations on another group of test data are performed by using the modified Burgers creep model and reasonable results are observed,展开更多

Within such an area, a vehicle might be involved in a right-angle crash or rear-end collision. This issue has been extensively discussed over five decades in traffic engineering field, cov- eting from theory to practice. However, few comprehensive review literatures on the amber signal di- lemma zone problems can be found. The objective of this paper is to summarize the evolution of yellow light dilemma zone researches. Basic definition and boundary of dilemma zone followed by driver be- havior and dilemma zone hazard measurement are depicted. Dilation angle is a significant parameter needed for numerical simulation of tunnels.Even though dilation parameter is physically variable and dependent on confinement and experienced shear plastic strain based on the...Dilation angle is a significant parameter needed for numerical simulation of tunnels.Even though dilation parameter is physically variable and dependent on confinement and experienced shear plastic strain based on the existing dilation models,numerical simulations of tunnels and underground openings with constant dilation parameter usually lead to satisfactory results in practical use.This study aims to find out why constant dilation angle is enough under practical conditions to simulate numerically tunnels and underground excavations in spite of the fact that dilation angle is variable in laboratory and experimental scale.With this aim,this work studies how mobilized dilation angle varies in a plastic zone surrounding a tunnel.For the circular tunnel under uniform in situ stress field,the stepwise finite difference approximation analytical solution considering strain softening rock mass behavior with mobilized dilation angle was used to study how mobilized dilation angle varies in plastic zone around tunnel under very different conditions.In practical conditions determined in this study,dilative behavior of all over the plastic zone around the tunnel can be approximated to constant dilation angle in the middle region of the plastic zone.Moreover,the plastic zone displacements for mobilized and constant dilation angle models are compared with each other.Further investigation under more general non-uniform in situ stress conditions and non-circular tunnels is performed by using the commercial finite difference software to numerically simulate the Mine-by experimental tunnel of AECL(Atomic Energy of Canada Limited)and the arched tunnel.Although the Mine-by and arched tunnels were numerically simulated based on the mobilized dilation angle model,the variability associated with dilation angle around the simulated Mine-by and arched tunnels is insignificant,and dilation angle is approximately constant in the plastic zone.展开更多
Monte Carlo simulations were carried out to generate a mesoscale model of concrete with randomly packed aggregates with different shapes and sizes.The mechanical properties of concrete specimens under uniaxial tensile...Monte Carlo simulations were carried out to generate a mesoscale model of concrete with randomly packed aggregates with different shapes and sizes.The mechanical properties of concrete specimens under uniaxial tensile loads were studied using statistical results.The results indicated that the entire process of damage and failure of specimens exhibited mainly two failure types:fracture patternsⅠandⅡ.Furthermore,the influences of the aggregate content ratio,aggregate shape,aggregate size,interfacial transition zone(ITZ)strength,and porosity ratio on the concrete specimens were analyzed.The numerical simulation results showed that the elastic modulus of the concrete specimens increased approximately linearly with the aggregate volume ratio but decreased linearly with the porosity and was not affected by the ITZ strength.The tensile strength decreased with the increases in the aggregate content and porosity of the sample,but increased linearly with the ITZ strength.In addition,the aggregate shape led to a difference in the tensile strength of the concrete.展开更多

Ti?22Al...The oxidation behavior of Ti?22Al?(27?x)Nb?xZr (x=0, 1, 6) alloys at 800 °C for exposure time up to 100 h was examined. It is shown that oxidation rate of experimental alloys obeys the parabolic kinetics. Ti?22Al?26Nb?1Zr alloy demonstrates more excellent oxidation resistance than the other two alloys. The main oxidation products are TiO2, Al2O3 and AlNbO4 phases for all these alloys. For the Ti?22Al?26Nb?1Zr alloy, Zr addition can modify the growth mechanism of oxide scale, which can effectively hinder the diffusion of oxygen. Whereas, reaction of Zr with oxygen leads to the formation of ZrO2 precipitates for the Ti?22Al?21Nb?6Zr alloy, which promotes the oxygen ingress into the substrate. Meanwhile, oxidation affected zones, including internal-oxidation layer and oxygen-enriched zone, are present beneath the outmost oxide scale. The difference in these zones is derived from the phase constitution in the starting Ti?22Al?(27?x)Nb?xZr (x=0, 1, 6) alloys.展开更多
