The coastal waters of China serve as an important feeding ground for congers, but the spatio-temporal variations in the fishery and biological characteristics of the population have been rarely evaluated and less well understood in this area. We studied the growth, spawning and feeding characteristics of C. myriaster on the basis of samples collected from October 2016 to April 2017 in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea. A total of 529 specimens were collected, with ages ranging from 1 to 6 years and total length ranging from 132 mm to 834 mm. The parameters of von Bertalanffy growth equation L∞ and k were 1 026 mm and 0.226 a^–1, respectively;the sex ratio was 88:0 (female: male) in the East China Sea and 2.67:1 in the South Yellow Sea;the development stage of ovary ranged from peri-nucleolus stage to secondary yolk globule stage, and the testis of two males was at midmeiotic stage;Crustacean was the major prey for conger of small length, and food source shift to fish with somatic growth. The results showed substantial differences from previous studies in Japan and Korean waters, as well as from China seas in the 1980s, suggesting potential spatiotemporal changes in the biological characteristics of C. myriaster. This study may improve current understanding of the fishery biology of C. myriaster in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea.展开更多

Methods: Three...Objective: To observe the effect of Bushen Conger (BSCE) tablet, a pure Chinese herbal medicine for reinforcing Kidney, removing blood stasis and opening apertures, in treating sensorineural deafness. Methods: Three hundred and ten patients were treated by BSCE tablet and the effects were observed. At the same time the effects of BSCE tablet on hearing, SOD, LPO, etc. were also assayed in guinea pigs. Results: The clinical total effective rate of BSCE tablet was 71.9 %. Animal experiment proved that the drug was effective in preventing and treating toxic deafness induced by aminoglycoside antibiotics. Conclusion: BSCE tablet could cure sensorineural deafness through adjusting the cochlear cyclic neucleotides as well as its SOD level, reducing the LPO level, and raising the thyroid and sexual glandular functions.展开更多

Selectivity and ...Comparative fishing experiments were carried out in 2010 using tube traps with five hole diameters (8, 15, 18, 20 and 22 mm) to establish the size selectivity of escape holes for white-spotted conger. Selectivity and split parameters of the SELECT model were calculated using the estimated-split and equal-spilt model. From likelihood ratio tests and AIC (Akaike's Information Criterion) values, the estimated-split model was selected as the best-fit model. Size selectivity of escape holes in the tube traps was expressed as a logistic curve, similar to mesh selectivity. The 50% selection length of white-spotted conger in the estimated-split model was 28.26, 33.35, 39.31 and 47.30 cm for escape-hole diameters of 15, 18, 20 and 22 mm, respectively. The optimum escape-hole size is discussed with respect to management of the white-spotted conger fishery. The results indicate that tube traps with escape holes of 18 mm in diameter would benefit this fishery.展开更多
