AIM:To investigate the association between tear film break up time(TBUT)and blinking interval in visual display terminal(VDT)users.METHODS:Nine hundred and thirty VDT users underwent dry eye testing,and function...AIM:To investigate the association between tear film break up time(TBUT)and blinking interval in visual display terminal(VDT)users.METHODS:Nine hundred and thirty VDT users underwent dry eye testing,and functional visual acuity(FVA)test.The blinking interval during FVA was compared with TBUT.Subjects with longer blinking interval than TBUT were considered as unstable tear film.Logistic regression analysis revealed the risk factors for unstable tear group.RESULTS:Among 930 workers,858 subjects(92.3%)participated in this study.Almost 80% of the subjects were categorized into the unstable tear group.Unstable tear group has significantly lower Schirmer values and TBUT(17.5±11.6 vs 21.1±11.5 mm,3.7±2.6 vs 5.7±2.7s,both P〈0.001).There were no significant differences in epithelial staining or severity of symptoms.Logistic regression showed that over 40y was a risk for being unstable tear group[odds ratio(OR)=1.53;95%confidence interval(CI)=1.06-2.20].Contact lens use was protective factor for being in the unstable tear group(OR=0.37;95%CI=0.26-0.53).CONCLUSION:Subjects with shorter TBUT than blinking interval are prevalent among VDT users.Subjects over the age of 40 shows an increased risk for unstable tear film.展开更多

However, there are many difficulties with face recognition systems. For example, an imposter could Iogin the face recognition system by stealing the facial photograph of a person registered on the facial recognition system. The secudty of the face recognition system requires a live detection system to prevent system Iogin using photographs of a human face. This paper describes an effective, efficient face live detection method which uses physiological motion detected by estimating the eye blinks from a captured video sequence and an eye contour extraction algorithm. This technique uses the conventional active shape model with a random forest classifier trained to recognize the local appearance around each landmark. This local match provides more robustness for optimizing the fitting procedure. Tests show that this face live detection approach successfully discriminates a live human face from a photograph of the registered person's face to increase the face recognition system reliability.展开更多
EOG is a biosignal which occurs during eye activities such as eye movement and blink. EOG has a linear relationship with gaze distance. Detection object position in 3-dimensional area using gaze motion was proposed in...EOG is a biosignal which occurs during eye activities such as eye movement and blink. EOG has a linear relationship with gaze distance. Detection object position in 3-dimensional area using gaze motion was proposed in this research. To calculate the distance of gaze motion in pixel unit, affine transform method was developed. The homogeneous matrix from five geometry processes: transformation-1, rotation, transformation-2, shear, and dilatation was determined. To give tracking ability in 3-dimensional area, two cameras were attached each in front of and top side of object. The cameras were accessed by voluntary blink. The EOG characteristic of blink eye was determined based on the absolute ratio between positive peak and negative peak which was greater than 1. Every blink toggled the active camera. The position of object was given by the perceived locations from the two cameras. Every movement in pixel coordinate was converted into centimeter unit. Then, the perceived location was used to calculate to the base coordinate. The result shows that the blink method successfully accessed the camera. Both of the cameras could show the location of object from their side. Calculating the gaze distance using affine transform also gave a satisfied result. Using this method controlling a machine in 3-dimensional area by EOG could be developed.展开更多
One 11-year-old male case complained with "frequent blink of eyes for 4 years,aggravated for 2 months",and was diagnosed as excessive eye blink.On the base of the treatment of western medicine,acupuncture wa...One 11-year-old male case complained with "frequent blink of eyes for 4 years,aggravated for 2 months",and was diagnosed as excessive eye blink.On the base of the treatment of western medicine,acupuncture was compiled at Fengchi(风池 GB20),Sibai(四白 ST2),Yangbai(阳白 GB14) punctured through to Yuyao(鱼腰 EX-HN4),et al.Another 9-year-old male case complained with "frequent blink of eyes for half a year",and was diagnosed as excessive eye blink too.On the base of the treatment of western medicine,acupuncture was applied at Chize(尺泽 LU5),ST2,GB14 punctured to EX-HN4,Sanyinjiao(三阴交 SP6),Taixi(太溪 KI3),et al.After the treatment,all of the symptoms were disappeared and were not recurred in 1-year follow-up in the two case.Although these two cases share the same disease in western medicine,the etiologies are diverse in traditional Chinese medicine.Hence,the therapeutic methods are different,including various acupoint selections and needling techniques for reducing and reinforcing,which should be thought deeply and applied into clinic.展开更多
