The solid-phase transformations of metal materials under high magnetic fields are an important topic in research on the electromagnetic processing of materials.Progress in research on the diffusional phase transformat...The solid-phase transformations of metal materials under high magnetic fields are an important topic in research on the electromagnetic processing of materials.Progress in research on the diffusional phase transformations of Fe–C alloys under high magnetic fields is reviewed.The effects of high magnetic fields on the microstructural evolution in diffusional phase transformations in Fe–C alloys are discussed.The kinetics of ferrite transformations,pearlite transformations,and the precipitation of carbides under high magnetic fields are reviewed in terms of the thermodynamics of phase transformations and the diffusion behavior of carbon atoms.Finally,future trends in research on diffusional phase transformations of Fe–C alloys under high magnetic fields are discussed.展开更多
Two-dimensional cellular automaton(CA)simulations of phase transformations of binary alloys during solidification were reported.The modelling incorporates local concentration and heat changes into a nucleation or grow...Two-dimensional cellular automaton(CA)simulations of phase transformations of binary alloys during solidification were reported.The modelling incorporates local concentration and heat changes into a nucleation or growth function,which is utilized by the automaton in a probabilistic fashion.These simulations may provide an efficient method of discovering how the physical processes involved in solidification processes dynamically progress and how they interact with each other during solidification.The simulated results show that the final morphology during solidification is related with the cooling conditions.The established model can be used to evaluate the phase transformation of binary alloys during solidification.展开更多
A novel approach based on thermal diffusion was used to achieve controllable Mg content in A_(2)B_(7)-type La-Mg-Ni-based alloys.The formation mechanism of the A_(2)B_(7)-type phase as a result of the thermal diffusio...A novel approach based on thermal diffusion was used to achieve controllable Mg content in A_(2)B_(7)-type La-Mg-Ni-based alloys.The formation mechanism of the A_(2)B_(7)-type phase as a result of the thermal diffusion process and the effect of Mg content on hydrogen storage performance were investigated.X-ray diffraction(XRD)patterns and Rietveld refinement results showed that increased Mg transformed the LaNi_(5)phase in the La_(0.74)Sm_(0.03)Y_(0.23)Ni_(4.32)Al_(0.04)precursor alloy into a superlattice structure.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)images showed that Mg was evenly distributed in the alloy bulk.Mg in the superlattice significantly inhibited the phase decomposition of the superlattice structure during the hydrogen absorption/desorption cycles.An A_(2)B_(7)-type La_(0.57)Sm_(0.02)Y_(0.18)Mg_(0.23)Ni_(3.38)Al_(0.03)alloy composed of Gd_(2)Co_(7)and Ce_(2)Ni_(7)phases was successfully synthesized.The pressure-composition isotherm profiles showed that the alloy had a hydrogen storage capacity as high as 1.73 wt%,with good cycling stability.After 50 cycles of hydrogen absorption/desorption,the alloy retained a hydrogen storage capacity of 1.45 wt%,with a capacity retention rate of up to 84.28%.The Mg thermal diffusion process thus provides a new approach for the controlled preparation of La-Mg-Ni-based alloys.展开更多
Elongated MnS inclusions in rolled non-quenched and tempered steel tend to cause the mechanical anisotropy of steel,deteriorate the mechanical properties and degrade the quality and service life of the steel products....Elongated MnS inclusions in rolled non-quenched and tempered steel tend to cause the mechanical anisotropy of steel,deteriorate the mechanical properties and degrade the quality and service life of the steel products.To reveal the mechanisms of morphological transformation of strip-shaped MnS inclusions during isothermal heating,the effects of heat treatment time and temperature on the morphology,number density and size distribution of elongated MnS inclusions were systematically studied and discussed.A diffusion couple experiment was also conducted to clarify the diffusion mode of MnS inclusions.The experimental results showed that with the increase in isothermal heating time(from 0 to 10 h at 1473 K)and temperature(from 1173 to 1573 K for 3.0 h),the number density and average aspect ratio of MnS inclusions generally showed an increase and decrease trend,respectively,while the area fraction remained stable and only slightly fluctuated around 0.4%.In the diffusion couple,after the isothermal heating at 1473 K for 3.0 h,the elements Mn and S in the steel near the steel-MnS interface were very stable without any concentration gradient.The morphology change sequence of the elongated MnS inclusions in the rolled non-quenched and tempered steel during the isothermal heating was strip→cylinderization→spindle→spheroidization.Relationship between the diameter of MnS inclusion and the spacing between two MnS inclusions after splitting,and the fitting goodness of different n values under different experimental time and temperature confirmed that the driving force for the transformation of MnS inclusions during the isothermal heating was surface diffusion,instead of volume diffusion.展开更多
