The effects of different procedures of the flux corrections on CO2, momentum, and latent and sensible heat fluxes were assessed. The result showed that coordinate rotation has a great influence on the momentum flux but little on scalar fluxes. For coordinate rotation using the planar fit method, different regression planes should be determined for different wind direction sectors due to the heterogeneous nature of the ground surface. Sonic temperature correction decreased the sensible heat flux by about 9%, while WPL correction (correction for density fluctuations) increased the latent heat flux by about 10%. WPL correction is also particularly important for CO2 fluxes. Other procedures of flux corrections, such as the time delay correction and frequency response correction, do not significantly influence the turbulent fluxes. Furthermore, quality tests on stationarity and turbulence development conditions were discussed. Parameterizations of integral turbulent characteristics (ITC) were tested and a specific parameterization scheme was provided for SACOL. The ITC test on turbulence development conditions was suggested to be applied only for the vertical velocity. The combined results of the quality tests showed that about 62%-65% of the total data were of high quality for the latent heat flux and CO2 flux, and as much as about 76% for the sensible heat flux. For the momentum flux, however, only about 35% of the data were of high quality.展开更多

The compressibility effect of density gradient, pressure dilatation and turbulent Mach number is accounted. In order to reduce confusions between model uncertainties and discretization errors, the formally fifth-order explicit weighted compact nonlinear scheme (WCNS-E-5) is adopted for convection terms, and a fourth-order staggered central difference scheme is applied for viscous terms. The 15° and 34° compression comers at Mach number 9.22 are investigated. Numerical results show that the original SST model is superior to the original S-A model in the resolution of separated regions and predictions of wall pressures and wall heat-flux rates. The capability of the S-A model can be largely improved by blending Catris' and Shur's compressibility corrections. Among the three corrections of the SST model listed in the present paper, Catris' modification brings the best results. However, the dissipation and pressure dilatation corrections result in much larger separated regions than that of the experiment, and are much worse than the original SST model as well as the other two corrections. The correction of turbulent Mach number makes the separated region slightly smaller than that of the original SST model. Some results of low-order schemes are also presented. When compared to the results of the high-order schemes, the separated regions are smaller, and the peak wall pressures and peak heat-flux rates are lower in the region of the reattachment points.展开更多

Such data represent an opportunity to explore the potential information on the directional observations in the thermal infrared region, in view of the preparation of a new generation of multi-angle satellite sensors. Based on the analysis of one ATSR image, the results of this work indicate that the magnitude of the directional effect on the brightness temperature (ground anisotropic radiance), although quite sensitive to errors in atmospheric conditions, may still be retrieved with acceptable uncertainty. In order to retrieve both vegetation and soil temperatures from directional brightness temperatures, it is shown that an appropriate description of the nature and content of the pixel is needed, otherwise this retrieval will be quite uncertain.展开更多
