Currently,in the automotive industry,joining of the aluminum alloys with the steel is a crucial problem to be solved.Conventional joining techniques including resistance spot and gas metal arc welding are not acceptable for those applications due to a number of metallurgical problems.The investigation was carried out to develop the hybrid joining process combining the resistance spot welding and brazing.In this study,an attempt was made to apply hybrid process to the joining of dissimilar sheet metals,Al-Mg-Si(6000 series) alloy and low carbon steel sheet.Hybrid process(resistance spot weld/brazing) using filler metal was found to be effective to overcome the incompatibility between aluminum alloy and steel.Although hybrid joining process of Al alloy sheet and steel sheet did not produce acceptable bond strength,it was proved to have reasonable interfacial bond layer if the optimal process condition was applied. 展开更多

For Al 6k21-T4 overlap weld joint,the shear-tensile strength by using the weaving laser was improved as compared to the case of linear laser.For the specimen of low strength,the porosity was distributed continuously along the intersection between the plates and fusion line.However,for the optimized welding condition,large oval-shaped porosities were located only in the advancing track of the concave part.Therefore,the continuity of cracks and porosities played a key role to determine the strength.And,the weaving width was also the important parameter to control the strength.Furthermore,the concave part had more significant hot and cold cracking in the weld and heat-affected zone(HAZ),respectively,than the convex part. 展开更多

Past research has demonstrated that a static, three-dimensional (3D) object scene can be directly recorded as a complex digital hologram. However, numerical reconstruction of the object scene, which may comprise multiple sections located at unknown distances from the hologram, is a complicated and computation-intensive process. To the best of our knowledge, we propose, for the first time, a low complexity method that is capable of recon- structing a complex hologram, such that sections at different depths in the 3D object scene can be automatically reconstructed at the correct focal distances and merged into a single image for an extended depth of field. We demonstrate an order of magnitude increase of the depth of field for binary objects. With the use of a graphical processing unit, the reconstruction of a 512 × 512 complex hologram can be accomplished in about 100 ms, equivalent to around 10 frames per second. 展开更多

In the field of yarn dyeing, the most generally employed method is a type of package dyeing which uses a package of cheese stacked on a spindle made of a perforated tube. Spindles up to now, have been designed without considering the characteristics of dyeing liquid, focusing only on the geometric configuration which cause many problems such as lack of level dyeing. To improve the level dyeing and find the appropriate spindle configuration for the most effective dyeing process, this study examines the spindle flow-field in detail, using a computational method. Flow characteristics inside the spindle have been investigated with varying in porosity, porous diameter and the velocity of the flow. The results show that the total pressure of the flow through the spindle is used to overcome body force. The characteristics of the flow from the porous spindle could also be observed. Based on the results from this study, an effective spindle configuration for level-dyeing has been proposed. 展开更多

Heterostructured eutectic high-entropy alloys(EHEAs)have attracted significant attention owing to their novel properties,such as balanced combinations of strength and fracture toughness.However,the toughening/strengthening mechanisms of these EHEAs have not been thoroughly investigated.In this study,we developed a series of dual-phase Al_((18–2x))Co_(30)Cr_((11+x))Fe_((11+x))Ni_(3)0(x=-1,0,1)eutectic and neareutectic HEAs containing face-centered cubic(FCC)and body-centered cubic(BCC)phases.Despite the high amount of BCC,which is referred to as the brittle phase,newly developed EHEAs exhibited superior fracture toughness.Interestingly,we discovered that a fully eutectic HEA exhibited further improvements in both yield stress and fracture toughness,outperforming our off-eutectic and other previously reported HEAs.By combining experiments and theoretical models,we demonstrated that the synergistic increase in both strength and toughness in our fully eutectic HEA was derived from the high hetero-deformationinduced(HDI)strengthening/toughening associated with a high misorientation angle at the grain/phase boundaries. 展开更多

Aim:To determine whether in utero and neonatal exposure to a 60 Hz extremely low frequency electromagnetic field (EMF) results in spermatotoxicity and reproductive dysfunction in the F1 offspring of rats.Methods:Age-matched, pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed continuously (21 h/day) to a 60 Hz EMF at field strengths of 0 (sham control),5,83.3 or 500 μT from day 6 of gestation through to day 21 of lactation.The experimentally generated magnetic field was monitored continuously (uninterrupted monitoring over the period of the study) throughout the study.Results:No exposure-related changes were found in exposed or sham-exposed animals with respect to the anogenital distance,preputial separation,testis weight,testicular histology,sperm count,daily sperm production, sperm motility,sperm morphology and reproductive capacity of F1 offspring.Conclusion:Exposure of Sprague- Dawley rats to a 60 Hz EMF at field strengths of up to 500 μT from day 6 of gestation to day 21 of lactation did not produce any detectable alterations in offspring spermatogenesis and fertility. 展开更多

The films were deposited on Si substrate with various thickness ratio of Nd/NdFeB layer (R=0~3.3), then diffused and crystallized by annealing at 650℃ for 10 min. The film without Nd layer showed soft magnetic behavior and high content of a-Fe phase. The films with R > =1 showed good hard magnetic properties with the high coercivity of about 20 kOe. 展开更多

The quantum mechanics of scattering processes is also well understood. However, the quantum mechanics of moving bound states is still debatable. When it is at rest, the space-like separation between the constituent particles is the primary variable. When the bound state moves, this space-like separation picks up the time-like separation. The time-separation is not a measurable variable in the present form of quantum mechanics. The only way to deal with this un-observable variable is to treat it statistically. This leads to rise of the statistical variables such entropy and temperature. Paul A. M. Dirac made efforts to construct bound-state wave functions in Einstein’s Lorentz-covariant world. In 1927, he noted that the c-number time-energy relation should be incorporated in the relativistic world. In 1945, he constructed four-dimensional oscillator wave functions with one time coordinate in addition to the three-dimensional space. In 1949, Dirac introduced the light-cone coordinate system for Lorentz transformations. It is then possible to integrate these contributions made by Dirac to construct the Lorentz-covariant harmonic oscillator wave functions. This oscillator system can explain the proton as a bound state of the quarks when it is at rest, and explain the Feynman’s parton picture when it moves with a speed close to that of light. While the un-measurable time-like separation becomes equal to the space-like separation at this speed, the statistical variables become prominent. The entropy and the temperature of this covariant harmonic oscillator are calculated. It is shown that they rise rapidly as the proton speed approaches that of light. 展开更多

One of the important issues in the system identification and the spectrum analysis is the frequency resolution, i.e., the capability of distinguishing between two or more closely spaced frequency components. In the modal identification by the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method, because of the separating capability of the method, it is still a challenge to consistently and reliably identify the parameters of structures of which modes are not well separated. A new method is introduced to generate the intrin- sic mode functions (IMFs) through the filtering algorithm based on the wavelet packet decomposition (GIFWPD). In this paper, it is demonstrated that the CIFWPD method alone has a good capability of separating close modes, even under the severe condition beyond the critical frequency ratio limit which makes it impossible to separate two closely spaced harmonics by the EMD method. However, the GIFWPD-only based method is impelled to use a very fine sampling frequency with consequent prohibitive computational costs. Therefore, in order to decrease the computational load by reducing the amount of samples and improve the effectiveness of separation by increasing the frequency ratio, the present paper uses a combination of the complex envelope displacement analysis (CEDA) and the GIFWPD method. For the validation, two examples from the previous works are taken to show the results obtained by the GIFWPD-only based method and by combining the CEDA with the GIFWPD method. 展开更多

Type-Ⅱsuperlattice(T2SL)materials are the key element for infrared(IR)detectors.However,it is well known that the characteristics of the detectors with the T2SL layer are greatly affected by the strain developed during the growth process,which determines the performance of IR detectors.Therefore,great efforts have been made to properly control the strain effect and develop relevant analysis methods to evaluate the strain-induced dark current characteristics.In this work,we report the strain-induced dark current characteristics in InAs/GaSb T2SL MWIR photodetector.The overall strain of InAs/GaSb T2SL layer was analyzed by both high-resolution X-ray diffraction(HRXRD)and the dark current measured from the absorber layer at the elevated temperatures(≥110 K),where the major leakage current component is originated from the reduced minority carrier lifetime in the absorber layer.Our findings indicate that minority carrier lifetime increases as the tensile strain on the InAs/GaSb T2SL is more compensated by the compressive strain through‘InSb-like’interface,which reduces the dark current density of the device.Specifically,tensile strain compensated devices exhibited the dark current density of less than 2×10^-5 A/cm^2 at 120 K,which is more than one order of magnitude lower value compared to that of the device without tensile strain relaxation. 展开更多
