This article provides an in-depth look at the legal protection of privacy and data in the digital age. First, the article describes the increased importance of the digital era for personal data and the criticality of privacy and data legal protection. Next, the article details the current state of data legal protection worldwide, including Europe’s GDPR, California’s CCPA, the U.S. HIPAA, and China’s personal information protection law. The article then analyzes the shortcomings of these regulations, such as the increase in privacy violations, rapid technological advancements, cross-border data flow issues, regulatory enforcement and sanctioning challenges, and insufficient individual education and awareness. Next, the article makes recommendations for improvement, including strengthening personal data control, enhancing data security requirements, increasing regulation and sanctions, increasing public education and awareness, and promoting international cooperation. These recommendations aim to improve the level of data protection and ensure that personal privacy and data security are better maintained in the digital era. Finally, the article summarizes the recognition of the urgency of enhancing data legal protection in the digital era and calls for more in-depth discussions and improvements to ensure that individual privacy and data security are safeguarded along with technological advances.
