Characteristics of recent surficial uranium metallogeny of Prairie Flats deposit in Canada are discussed in the paper. Under supergene condition, uranium enrichment mainly occurs in sediments composed of fine-grained elastics instead of sand and pebble. However, the uranium in fine-grained clastic sediments is unstable, most of the uranium in adsorption state in fine elastics will be desorbed and migrated to the nearby sandstone bodies during the process of sediment compaction. According to the characteristics of recent surficial uranium metallogeny of Prairie Flats deposit, it is proposed that uranium pre-enrichment during depositional-diagenetic stage can be developed in the variegated formation formed under semi-arid or arid-humid climatic conditions, and can become an important ore-hosting formation for sandstone-type uranium deposits.
