摘要
在20世纪二三十年代中国思想文化界争论中,胡适提出了"全盘西化"口号,其真正目的是想通过对古老的中国文化进行改造,使之能够真正融入到世界进步潮流中去。不论是"全盘西化"还是"充分现代化"、"充分世界化",其内涵都是科学化、技术化、民主化。"全盘西化"在用词上存在缺陷和弊端,它被"现代化"所替代是历史的必然,"现代化"已成为当代中国和世界发展的主题与主旋律。
During the debate in the Chinese ideological and cultural circles in the 1920s, Hu Shi advanced the slogan of 'wholesale westernization', aiming to reform traditional Chinese culture and enable it to integrate genuinely with the progressive trend of the world. Be it 'wholesale westernization' or ' wholehearted modernization' or ' wholehearted cosmopolitanization', it is, in essence, scientific, technological and democratic. Due to its defects in diction, 'wholesale westernization' has inevitably been replaced by 'modernization'. 'Modernization' has become the motif and main trend for the development of modern China and the world.
