布迪厄的福楼拜论是他的文化社会学的一部份,他特别关心的是文化行为、文化生产、社会体制和各种物质或象征权力之间的关系。布迪厄分析福楼拜时所借助的核心概念是“文化场域”。文化场域的基本结构特征是不同可占位置间的差别和相互关系。文化场域的运作来自正统和异见这两种不同趋势之间的相互争夺,其中异见既是一种占位行为,也常常是一种新型文化生产方式。
Pierre Bourdieu's study of Flaubert is part of his sociological project of dissecting the relationship between cultural activities, cultural production, social institution, and different forms of material and symbolic power. Central to Bourdieu's analysis is the notion of “cultural field”, which is structured by the distribution of available positions. The dynamic of the field is based on the struggles between the orthodoxy of established traditions and the heretical challenge of new modes of practice, manifested in position-taking.
