Objective To observe the function, curative effect and mechanism of massage manipulations on treating cervical spondylosis. Methods Two Hundred and thirty-four cases of cervical spondylosis were divided into the treatment group (189 cases) treated with massage manipulations and the control group (45 cases) treated with conservative therapy of Western medicine. The clinical symptoms, signs of two groups before and after treatment were observed. At the same time the curative effect of massage manipulations, and its relation to the pathological types and course of cervical spondylosis were studied comparatively. Results 1. Massage manipulation had significant effect on improving neck pain, neck and arms pain, headache and dizziness(P<0.05), but on muscular dystrophy caused by constriction in nerves and blood vessels massage manipulations had limited effect and there was no significant difference. 2. There was significant difference between two groups as to the function of massage manipulation. The result of the treatment group was better than that of the control group(P<0.05, P<0.01). 3.The curative effect of massage manipulation was mainly related to types and causes of the disease. Conclusion The treatment of cervical spondylosis with massage manipulation has reliable curative effect. Different manipulations of massage should be taken according to different pathological types for the best curative effect.
