The images of escapists or drop-outs refer to the rush of the underlying cultural current in American society which is characterized by “sound and fury”, to the auxiety, restraint and even rebellion against the mainstream American culture. This paper aims at delving into the escapist images in American literature, revealing their essentials, with the theory of cultural anthropology, in the pursuit of the implicature or significance refracted in American culture.
