A batch of bronzes was unearthed from the Gaohaji site in Wangcheng,Hunan,With the round ding tripod as the main type,these objects show clear common chronological features and cultural aspect of the Bronze Age,and belong th the final stage of the Shang period.In either the way of burial or typological ,chronological and cultural aspects they differ from the Shang bronzes discovered in the Xiangjiang River valley with Ningxiang as the center,The author analyzes the background of the birth and development of the bronze culture in the Xiangjiang valley as well as the bronzes from Hubei Qichun.On this basis he comes to the conclusion that the Gaoshaji bronzes may have been spread from the Central Plains in the late Shang,Thedicovery provides a scale for studying the Shang and Zhou bronzes from Hunan and brings some inspiration to our studies.
