词语理据指词语生成和发展的动因,分为语文理据和文化理据。文化理据折射了语言和经验世界间的意指关系,与词语内涵意义紧密相联,影响着词语的理解和使用。文化理据视角对专业英语词汇习得具有重要的实践价值,因为它能帮助学生掌握富含文化信息的对象性英语词汇,构建起纲举目张式的明达性词语知识系统,最终在提高英语水平的同时,为英汉语跨文化交流打下坚实的基础。
Lexical motivation means the driving force that supports the generation and development of words and it includes philological motivation and cultural motivation. Cultural motivation involves the relation between linguistic signs and the world of experience and it constrains the understanding and use of words, especially their connotative meaning. Thus a cultural motivation-based approach is significant in the English majors’ lexical acquisition, for it can not only facilitate their efficient learning of English words but also lay a solid foundation for their cross-cultural communication with English and Chinese related.
