There are a number of terms and poems of Quanzhen Jiao disseminated in The Pilgrimage towards the West, displaying in a sense the function of some metaphors; however, The Pilgrimage towards the West is strictly a kind of popular fiction with a vivid inclination of depreciating the Religious Taoism. Of course, one can find some clues of Quamhen Jiao in the course of the composition of The Pilgrimage towards the West. The affinity between Quanzhen Jiao and the popular art of 'relating and singing' is obvious as well, while The Pilgrimage towards the West was much influenced by the latter, especially the form of ' bao - juan'.
