徐继畬是鸦片战争前后开眼看世界的一位先进人物,他积极学习并传播先进文化,为中国的近代化作出了重要贡献。作为集中体现其思想的《瀛寰志略》,是当时中国人了解世界不可或缺的一部史地名著。
XU Ji-yu was an advanced figure,who followed the world around the Opium War.He studied and propagated advanced culture enthusiastically and made a great contribution to Chinese modern ization.An Outline Record of the Whole World History and Geogrephy,as a famous book of emboding his ideas,was a necessary famous book of history and geogrephy for Chinese at that time to understand the world.
