Henchard's story still holds a deep and extensive realistic meaning today, because it makes us understand what real kindness is and how to brave the adversity, besides that, his failure suggests to us we should constantly adjust to the changing situation. The excellent psychological analysis in the novel can deepen our understanding of the others, and by reading it we can become more mature.
