摘要
自我身份主要是指个人在阶级、性别和民族上的文化归属问题,在物品极大丰富的资本主义社会中,人们往往通过物品的符号价值来进行自我区分。物品成为构建人物身份的一种重要途径,但是以物作为衡量问题的标准也会造成巨大的时代悲剧。本文从物质文化的角度入手,着重分析《了不起的盖茨比》中出现的物品种类及其特点,阐释了物品作为自我延伸方式的原因以及小说中人物悲剧形成的原因。
Self-identity mainly refers to the problem of cultural ownership in class, gender and ethnic. People tend to distinguish themselves by the symbolic value of abundant material in capitalist society. Material has become an important way to prove one’s identity. But this concept of using material as a standard will cause a huge tragedy of the times. This paper analyzes the types of goods and their characteristics in The Great Gatsby, explains why owing material can be regarded as a way of self-extension, and illustrates the reason the tragedy from the material and cultural point of view.
