To construct the information system of molecular fossils based on Web will provide an information platform released on the Internet for worldwide researchers of organic geochemistry and molecular paleontology to retrieve and communicate rapidly. So far, abundant GC MS data have been accumulated and many research achievements have been made in domains associated with molecular fossils, which are main research objects and important means in the fields of organic geochemistry, molecular paleontology , organic biomineralization and so on. However it is very difficult to identify a kind of component accurately. Therefore, it is very significant to construct the information system of molecular fossils based on Web. According to practical requirements, the authors adopt ASP (Active Server Pages) technology and n tier Browser/Server distributed database technology to design and develop the information system. In the first place, they summarize the molecular fossil data and documents, then, design the database model and scheme of data search and storage and finally, describe in details the structures and their relationships of six molecular fossil databases including gas chromatography database, mass chromatography database, total ion current plot database, mass spectrum database, fossil molecule database and structural formula database of fossil molecules. Once the system is developed successfully, it will play an important role in the discrimination of molecular fossils on the Internet and is beneficial to promote informatization and modernization of the research associated with molecular fossils.
