Aim To study the changes and clinical significance of plasma neuropeptide Y (NPY) and endothelin (ET) levels and nailfold microcirculation in patients with essential hypertension(EH) and hypertensive cerebral apoplexy. Methods Plasma NPY and ET levels and nailfold microcirculation were measured by radioimmunoassay(RIA) and apparatus respectively in controls and in patients with EH and cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage. Results The levels of plasma NPY and ET and total integral value of nailfold microcirculation in patients with EH,cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage were significantly higher than in those of the control group(P< 0.01),but no differences in plasma NPY and ET levels and nailfold microcirculation were found among three groups (P >0.05). Conclusion (1)There are abnormalism of neuroendocritic and of microcirculation and injury of vascular endothelium in patients with EH and cerebral apoplexy.(2)These changes may be involved in the development of hypertension and cerebral apoplexy. <P>
