Coronary Care Unit (CCU) as a special area for coronary artery disease(CAD) provides a safe environment for CAD patients. When the patients' conditions are relieved, they are transferred from the CCU to the general ward. The transfer process often causes transfer anxiety. The aim of this study is to investigate the transfer anxiety of Chinese CAD patients and compare the data with those of foreign countries. Included in this study were 53 patients who were about to be transferred from the CCU to the general ward by using the SAI forms. Results: When the patients were notified of being transferred from the CCU to the general ward, they often experienced transfer anxiety, and the degree of anxiety decreased gradually with time passing in the general ward. The anxiety was more severe in female patients than that in male patients. Age and severity of the disease didn't seem to be associated with the anxiety, which was different from the data reported by foreign countries. The reason may be that the CCU system and patients' conception about disease are different.
