摘要
术语是概念的载体,翻译外来术语时,译词的选择直接影响着读者对相应概念的理解。译词的中文词义与术语内涵的匹配程度是判断译词是否恰当的依据。Informal Education是一个外来术语,常用译词有"非正式教育"和"非正规教育"。综合《现代汉语词典》和《辞海》的解释,这2个译词都与Informal Education内涵不匹配。追溯Informal Education的源起和发展,"非制式教育"更符合其内涵。另外,调查显示,目前常用的2个译词都会在很大程度上引发读者对Informal Education的误解,而"非制式教育"则能在很大程度上促进读者形成正确理解。
As a term is the representation of its corresponding concept,the Chinese equivalent of a foreign term can directly affect learners’understandings about the concept.The accurateness of a Chinese equivalent could be judged based on to what degree its semantics is appropriate to the idea of the corresponding foreign term.Informal Education is a foreign term,which possesses two common Chinese equivalents,'Informal education'and'Non-formal Education'.According to the explanations in two popular Chinese dictionaries,neither of the current common Chinese equivalents is appropriate to the term Informal Education.In the light of the rational of Informal Education and Chinese semantics,'Informal Education'is a more appropriate Chinese equivalent to Informal Education.Moreover,a survey on the readers’literal explanations was conducted.The results show that both the current common Chinese equivalents are very likely to lead readers to misunderstandings about'Informal Education',whereas'Non-standard education'is conducive to an accurate understanding.
