In the present paper the author reviews the development of the international palaeoentomology and divides it roughly into two mega-developed stages:(1)stage of beginning study and accumulation of basic materials;(2)stage of development and prosperity. These two stages can be subdivided also into eight periods. In two mega-stages there are three important historical summaries on international palaeoentomolo-gy,such as Handlisch A.(1906~1908):《Die Fossil Insekten und die Phylogenie der rezenten Formen》,Rohdendorf B.B.(1962):《Foundamentals of Paleoentomology》and Carpenter F.A.(1992):《Hexapoda》and regional and taxonomic palaeoentomological summaries in various countries.Through common efforts of all palaeoentomologists in the world,a complete classification of palaeoentomology has been accomplished. On the basis of affirmative archievements on the international palaeoentomology, including the new results of the paleoentomological study in China, the present paper discusses some problems on the palaeoentomologi-cal development ,such as strengthening basic work-fossil collection, taxonomy and description, especially in the country of just palaeoentomological development ;establishment of evolutionary succession of fossil ento-mofaunas and their history of development study on the insect origin, especially in the Paleozoic insects;strengthening international cooperation and exchange on the study of fossil insects, etc.
