The wooden shrine at the Temple of the Two Transcendents Nancun, Shanxi province, dated to the 12 th or 13 th century, is an important relic of early-period fine carpentry in China. From 2013 to 2015, the National Heritage Center of Tsinghua University carried out a systematical measured survey of the main hall and the shrine, and established a detailed database. This paper presents the surveying and measuring results and provides an in-depth analysis of the data, discussing standard rules of proportion and design with regard to absolute units of length(chi) and modular units(cai-fen), the distance between two bracket sets(duodang), and the scale of the whole structure.
