Mary Shelley uses the implicit narrative method in his classic work,Frankenstein.Among numerous narrative techniques,the implicit narrative process is particularly eye-catching,constructing a rich and profound structure for the entire novel.By analyzing the reliability of the narrator,one can gain insight into the complex psychology and motivations behind it,which makes the plot of the novel more engaging.In addition,the clever use of dramatic irony allows readers to have a deeper shock and refl ection after understanding the truth.The narrative strategy of misunderstanding can promote the development of the plot,complicates the relationships between characters,and enhances the readability of the novel.The implicit narrative process is used not only to tell a story,but also to convey the author’s profound thoughts on technology,human nature,and ethics.Through applying these narrative strategies,Shelley successfully guides readers into a world full of unknowns and explorations,demonstrating the indispensable role of implicit narrative processes in constructing the deep structure and theme of the novel.
